9th GRADE STUDENT INSTITUTES: Please read carefully

June 1, 2011

Dear Students and Parents of incoming 9th graders:

Congratulations on your acceptance to The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush. We have had a successful three years, and we anticipate even greater success as our class of 2015 enters in September.  The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, nicknamed, Rush Arts, thanks you for your interest and patience.

Please note the  important information  regarding our summer Student Institute and assessment week, before the school year officially begins.

  • Summer Assessments for 9th graders in math & Spanish will be held at Rush Arts during three days: July 19th, 20th, or 21st. Students are urged to attend one of these days to take the aforementioned assessments. A writing prompt will also be given. Assessments will begin promptly at 10:00 am and last approximately an hour. (If a student has never taken Spanish then he/she will not be given the assessment). Parents will be greeted by our Home and School Association.  Please RSVP  to Ms. Hanley at [email protected] for the assessment day.

  • August 23rd, 24th, & 25th will be our required 2011 Rush Arts Student Institute from   9:00 – 12:00.  Please RSVP to Ms. Hanley at [email protected].

  • Information about our school can always be viewed on our website: rushartsonline.org. Hard copies of our handbook will be distributed during the Student Institute. This handbook reviews the policies and procedures for students and parents at our school.

  • Starting in September, students who are absent must have a parent call the school by 8:00am to report the absence.  When a student returns to school, he/she must bring an excused absence note to give to his/her advisor.

  • Early dismissal policy includes notifying the school beforehand so that teachers are aware of work that will be missed. We urge parents to plan appointments before/after school as best as possible.

The Arts Academy school colors are purple and black – and our mascot is the Knight.  Students should take pride in their appearance and dress in a manner exhibiting good taste at all times. All clothing should be appropriate for learning. School logo wear and the colors of purple and black are encouraged.

We also want to remind parents to please drop off and pick up children in the South lot, closer to Fitzpatrick Elementary School.  Knights Road is a dangerous road due to the speeding cars..  We are also urging children to not cross the intersection in the middle of the street to catch SEPTA.  Children must cross at the corner lights. We will discuss this further with your child if he/she catches the bus.

Again, if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact the school at 215-281-2603.  Have a great summer.

Best,
Jessica M. Brown
Principal
