State Safety in Sports Act

Each Year, coaches in the School District of Philadelphia must demonstrate proof that they have current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.  In addition, they must show proof on file that they have passed all screening for Criminal Record, Child Abuse and FBI clearances.

Furthermore, every year, coaches must take training courses and get re=certified in specific recognition, prevention and treatment/care for Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Concussions.

By State Law, each school must provide parents/guardians with the ability to be educated in the areas of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Concussions.  Please use the links below to find helpful information.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest:

In summer of 2012, the state adopted new rules concerning sudden cardiac arrest.  Not only do all coaches need to be certified in CPR and Basic Life Saving techniques, but all schools must provide education for parents and student athletes.  Consequently, the PIAA added a page to their comprehensive parent permission packet concerning sudden cardiac arrest education.  Parents and student athletes need to sign before participation
