The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush’s coat of arms, designed by Class of 2013 student Alexis McCaffery, is representative of the many artistic aspects of our school. The symbols in each quarter of the seal represent five of our art majors: The paintbrush for the visual arts, the masks for theatre, the cane and top hat for dance, and the music notes for both the vocal and instrumental majors. In the center of the seal is the knight, our school’s mascot chosen for our location on Knights Road. The Latin saying on the ribbon, “Per artem doctrina,” means “learning through art;” this is the ultimate goal of the school, to educate young people in and through the arts.
