Hawaiian shirt Friday. Tomorrow. School spirit. Why you may ask? Cause it will be lots of fun! Plus Mr. Waggenhoffer won’t have to be the only one wearing a Hawaiian shirt this week! (Even though he’s sure his shirt will dominate.) Tomorrow, show your school spirit and Mr. Waggenhoffer who’s boss, rock your best Hawaiian threads.
Stop by Ms. Thacker’s room to pick up the next book club selection, Paper Towns. We will meet next Wednesday, March 17th, in room 236 to discuss the book and of course celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Anybody who’s interested in playing soccer of track and has already participated in Basketball still needs to see Mr. Katz or Mr. Wagnehoffer to fill out one Re-certification form – Section 5. You can not participate without it.
10th Grade Students – Dual Enrollment for Summer II session. Are you interested in earning college credits? Current 10th grade students with a GPA of 2.5 or better and less than 18 absences for the year are eligible to enroll for a college course at Community College of Philadelphia, 17th & Spring Garden Streets. If you are interested, you will need to fill out two applications which you can get from Ms. Senner in Room 147.
Community College of Philadelphia is sponsoring two 1-week duration science summer camps from July 12 through July 16, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will focus on Engineering as applied to solving real world problems and the other on Forensics from the perspectives of both Biology and Chemistry. Each camp is free and each will be open to 20 registrants. The Engineering camp can accept both male and female students; the Forensics camp is restricted to only females. See Ms. Senner in Room 147 for an application.
2010 Annual College Fair – Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2800 W. Cheltenham Avenue. The Fair features the following: How to Pay for College Workshops – preseted by: PHEAA, the primary college funding agency in Pennsylvania (from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) and The HBCU (Historically Black College & University) Experience Workshops (11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.) The workshop is sponsored by State Representative Cherelle L. Parker. Admissions officers from various colleges will be on site.
Summer pre-college courses for students in grades 9-12 are available this summer. Check these out: 1. The programs are affordable because they partner with host schools. $699 Day, $1199 Residential – $100 off if enrolled by March 15th 2. Locations at four tier 1 colleges in MA, PA, SC and Indiana 4. The colleges have partnered with Blueprint. Blueprint has a stamp of approval from each college’s president on their site and many faculty are involved. 5. The University of Pennsylvania is holding a 2010 Summer Mentorship Program from July 7th – August 4, 2010. The program is open to 10th and 11th grade students. Each selected participant will receive tokens for travel to and from Penn each day of the program, free lunch and a $400 stipend at the end of the program. The program is open to students currently enrolled in 10th or 11th grade and they get the opportunity to learn about college and careers in multiple fields. Students will spend four weeks attending a program on the Penn campus. Programs include: Dental Medicine, Engineering/I.T, Law, Medicine, Nursing. Interested?
